CS
Lewis
CS Lewis is considered one of the most
important Christian writers of the 20th Century. He was born on
29.11.1898 as Clive Staples Lewis in Belfast. 1917 he started -
as an atheist with an interest in pagan myths - a study in
Oxford, 1925 where he teaches English language and literature.
1926 he made one of the most important friendships of his life:
he met JRR Tolkien know. Together they joined the club of 1939
"Inkling" when a group of interested literature and creating
men who are over twenty years, once or twice a week for
readings and discussions met.
Tolkien established that Lewis is the
beginning of the thirties only profess to Christianity was -
"checkmate" is set, as he himself called it, after having both
in front of his emotions as well as arguments against the mind
of his friends and acquaintances had capitulated.
This new setting should Lewis' entire
literary work shape not only theological, but also the
narrative. From the theological stands particularly "Pardon, I
am a Christian" (1952) found a collection of texts from radio
broadcasts of the BBC. The book is - like his other books and
essays in this direction - in plain English, not only to
believers, but also just to unbelieving and skeptical people.
His best known book is probably "Instructions to a sub-Devil"
(1942), in its action and puns Lewis his undoubted literary
skills and safe use of language demonstrates. The Christian
component through Lewis' work as well, where it is not
necessarily would suggest: The seven "Chronicles of Narnia"
(from 1950), a series of fairy tales, stories based on the
Lewis and his brother as children have invented, represented
Christian values and focus on betrayal and redemption through a
sacrifice so unobtrusive that it is almost behind the story
resigns, but remains present.
CS Lewis was one of Christianity as such,
not denominations or faith disputes between them. While he was
Anglican, but he tried a universal Christianity to convey, but
his works never didactic, faculty character, but want to read.
Probably just makes the charm of his books. CS Lewis died on
22.11.1963 at his home "The Kilns" in England.
